หลักสูตรระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาของประเทศอังกฤษจะแบ่งเป็นช่วงชั้นดังนี้
Key Stage 1: 5 to 7 years old
Key Stage 2: 7 to 11 years old
Key Stage 3: 11 to 14 years old
Key Stage 4: 14 to 16 years old
Further Education: 16 years old and over (optional)
โดยระดับมัธยม จะเริ่มที่อายุ 11 ปี นักเรียนต่างชาติส่วนใหญ่จะเตรียมไปเรียนในช่วงชั้นนี้ เพื่อเตรียมตัวสอบ GCSE ก่อนอายุ 16 ปี และหลังจากสอบผ่านระดับ GCSE นักเรียนสามารถเลือกได้ว่าจะต่อหลักสูตร A-Level หรือ IB หรือ Foundation
